Quick Talk Answers 1. What do you think of onigiri? I love onigiri. They are delicious. They're also very convenient. We can make them really quickly; put them in a bento; or wrap them and put them in our bag. Or, we can get them from a convenience store. They're a staple food in Japan. I don't know anyone who doesn't eat rice balls. 2. What are your favourite onigiri fillings? I like all kinds of fillings. I think pickled plum might be my favourite. I love the sour taste of the plum. But I also like savory fillings. I particularly like salted salmon – I think that's shake in Japanese. I love trying all the new and original fillings that convenience stores create. 3. What do you think of homemade rice balls? Homemade rice balls are the best. The ones my Mum makes are better than any onigiri I have found in stores and restaurants. She knows the combination of rice and filling that I like. She also uses very crunchy dried seaweed. I also prefer my Mum's round onigiri to the triangular ones in stores. 4. Are grilled or non-grilled onigiri best? It depends. Grilled onigiri are great if we are at a barbecue or at a festival. The grilled or barbecued rice is delicious. Grilled onigiri are kind of special. We don't eat them so often because we need to cook them. Most of the time, I eat non-grilled onigiri, which are just as good as grilled rice balls. 5. Can you eat rice balls every day? Of course…. I do. They are a staple food in Japan, so it's easy to eat them every day. When I go into a store, the packaging on the rice balls kind of tells me to buy them and eat them. So I do… every day. They have many different fillings, so I never get bored of them. 6. How convenient are rice balls? Rice balls are super convenient, especially in our hectic lives. Onigiri are convenient and healthy. Although… I worry about how many preservatives are in the ones we buy from stores. One preservative is called… errr, errmm. Wait… it's on the tip of my tongue. Agghhh! I can't remember the name. Never mind. Preservatives aren't so good for us anyway.
