Bob:
Hi Yuki. What do you think of Tottori?
Yuki:
You (1) [meaning / mean] the prefecture or the city?
Bob:
Errr.... Both. Ok... How about Tottori City?
Yuki:
I really, really like Tottori City. It has everything I need and it's not too (2) [bigger / big] , so it's pretty easy to get around by bike. The cost of (3) [leaving / living] here is also quite low. The rent on my apartment is cheaper (4) [than / that] any rents in Osaka or Tokyo.
Bob:
Yes. I agree. I like Tottori City too. There're lots of unique cafes and restaurants here. I'm always amazed that the food is so (5) [taste / tasty] . Do you ever eat out here?
Yuki:
Eat out? You mean going to cafes and restaurants? Of course, I love (6) [eating / eat] out here. Tottori is great for seafood, (7) [special / especially] crab. I love going to the port for that. I go there once or twice a month. There's so much choice there. So many different dishes to (8) [choice / choose] from. Do you ever go to the port?
Bob:
Sometimes, but not as often as (9) [me / you] . I guess I go there three or four times a year. Tottori is (10) [well / good] known for some kind of pickles, isn't it?
Yuki:
That's right. Pickled scallion. They're called rakkyo in Japanese. Many companies in Tottori pickle them. I love pickles. Do you ever (11) [eat / eating] pickles?
Bob:
All the time. I would say I eat pickles four (12) [every / or] five times a week - with sushi and with curry rice. Yuki... I'm going to change the topic. Did you know Tottori is the (13) [least / last] populated prefecture in Japan? There are (14) [fewer / few] than 600,000 people living here.
Yuki:
I didn't know that. I thought the population was bigger. I know it's not (15) [crowd / crowded] . It's very rural, so there's lots of space. Every time I go to see a sight in Tottori, like the Sand Dunes or Mount Daisen, there are so few people there compared to sights in (16) [another / other] prefectures. Do you ever go to the Sand Dunes?
Bob:
Actually, I go there about once every two weeks. I teach English near there. They are really impressive. I love it when there's snow on the dunes. All of Tottori Prefecture is impressive - its nature, the mountains, valleys, forests and rivers are all beautiful. And the beaches. Tottori has a (17) [true / truly] amazing coastline. I also love the rice paddies.
Yuki:
Rice paddies? What are they?
Bob:
In Japanese you say tanbo.
Yuki:
Oh. I see. And yes, I agree. The countryside here is lovely. There are beautiful, (18) [deserted / dessert] beaches and uncrowded ski fields. Do you ski?
Bob:
Yes. I love skiing. I go once or twice a month in the winter. How about you?
Yuki:
I go once every (19) [two / twice] or three weeks. When it snows in Tottori, it's freezing cold, but the skiing is excellent.
Bob:
I agree. So... Where's your favourite place in Tottori Prefecture?
Yuki:
It's a small place called Chizu Town. It's on the border with Okayama Prefecture. It's a great place to spend the day just wandering around. It's very scenic, so it's perfect if you like taking photos of (20) [natural / nature] . I love it there. And I love Tottori.
Bob:
Chizu? OK. I might go there this weekend and check it out. Thanks. Bye.
