Quick Talk Answers 1. What do you know about the etiquette of eating sushi? There is a lot of etiquette to eating sushi. I don't know half of it. If you look online, you will find hundreds of rules about the correct methods of eating sushi. What to do and what not to do – the dos and don'ts. There is also chopstick etiquette, how-to-dip-the-fish-in-the-sauce etiquette and how-to-fold-the-wet-towel etiquette. So much etiquette. 2. How useful are wet towels (oshibori) in restaurants? The wet towels in sushi restaurants are essential. We definitely need them. I know I definitely need them because I'm a bit of a messy eater, and sometimes I spill soy sauce on the table. I use the towel to wipe the table. I know this is rude, but if my table is messy, I get embarrassed. 3. What are the "rules" of using wasabi, soy sauce and ginger? There are many rules of using wasabi, soy sauce and ginger. You should never dip the rice in the soy sauce. The rice will soak up the soy and it'll taste bad. Also, do not eat ginger with the sushi. You should eat ginger in between bites of sushi. It refreshes your mouth. And… never use too much wasabi. 4. Are conveyor belt sushi restaurants the best places to have sushi? I'm not sure if conveyor belt sushi restaurants are the best, but they are good. They're cheap, convenient and tasty. They're also a good place to hang out and relax with friends. Traditionally, people ate at counters in sushi restaurants. I prefer the conveyor belt restaurant with tables. 5. Have you ever thought that someone in a restaurant was rude? Yes. I think many people who go to restaurants are rude. When I see rude people, I stare at them. I think if I stare at them, they'll stop being rude. People need to behave better in restaurants. But… I'm sure I've done something rude in a restaurant, and someone stared at me. 6. Would you like to go to a really, really, really expensive sushi restaurant? Of course. I've never been to a really, REALLY expensive sushi restaurant. I guess the taste must be amazing. I definitely want to go to one, one day. I'd love to go to a really traditional one. There's a famous sushi restaurant in Ginza subway station. There's a movie about it. But it costs over ¥50,000 per person.
