Bob:
So... Yuki. You're Japanese. That means you're an expert (1) [to / on] sushi, right?
Yuki:
Well... I'm not really an expert, but I have (2) [eating / eaten] sushi my whole life. I love raw fish. I can't live without it.
Bob:
I know what you mean. I think I'm (3) [addicted / addict] to sushi. So what's your favourite fish?
Yuki:
I absolutely love tuna, squid and eel, but I can eat every kind of sushi. There is no sushi I really (4) [unlike / dislike] .
Bob:
In Japanese, tuna is maguro; squid is ika; and eel is unagi. Right?
Yuki:
Well done. What about octopus, sweetfish, salmon roe and sea bream?
Bob:
(5) Let me [watch / see] ... Octopus is tako; sweetfish is ayu; salmon roe is ikura; and sea bream is tai. Can you eat a lot of sushi, Yuki?
Yuki:
Yes, I can. There are so many delicious (6) [flavor / flavors] .
Bob:
I can eat a lot (7) [two / too] . I can eat 20 pieces of sushi. How much sushi can you eat? How many pieces of sushi do you (8) [rarely / usually] eat in a restaurant?
Yuki:
Sometimes I eat over 10 pieces. I think if I was starving, I could eat 30 pieces. It (9) [depend / depends] on how thick or thin the slices of fish (10) [are / have] .
Bob:
And do you like wasabi? How much wasabi do you have (11) [without / with] sushi?
Yuki:
I like wasabi, but I only have a little bit with my sushi. You shouldn't put wasabi in the soy sauce. Just put small pieces of wasabi on (12) [top / bottom] of the sushi and then dip it into the soy sauce. And never bite the sushi in (13) [whole / half] .
Bob:
Thank you. That's good to know. And... how much soy sauce do you (14) [use / uses] ?
Yuki:
Not too much. It's best to put just a little bit of soy sauce on the saucer, and then add more when you need it. Don't have too (15) [more / much] soy sauce with your sushi.
Bob:
OK. I'll remember that. I have another question. Why is the rice in sushi so (16) [taste / tasty] ?
Yuki:
Hmm... I've never really thought about that. I guess it's because the rice is marinated with vinegar. Bob. Now I have a question. Can we (17) [count / counting] rice?
Bob:
No. Not really. We can count kilograms of rice. I always buy a 10 kg bag of rice. And we can count the tiny grains of rice - I think it's difficult to pick up the last grain of rice on my plate with my chopsticks.
Yuki:
Ahhh, I see. I wonder how many (18) [grains / grain] of rice there are in one piece of sushi. One thousand? Ten thousand? One hundred thousand? A million?
Bob:
Who knows? I have no idea. Maybe we should count (19) [it / them] . So, Yuki, what else do you like about sushi?
Yuki:
I really like pickled ginger. That makes the sushi taste better.
Bob:
Yuki, all this talk about sushi is making me hungry. Let's go to Kurazushi.
Yuki:
Yes. Let's go. I want to have (20) [some / a] tuna, and squid, and eel, and octopus.
